The problem
Copying the chat stops working almost immediately
- Memory is per vendor. What ChatGPT remembers about your project, Claude does not — each keeps its own, and neither reads the other's conversations.
- A pasted summary goes stale the same day. You decide something in one assistant, and the copy you left in the other still describes last week.
- You pay for it in retelling. Every switch starts with a paragraph of background before you get to the actual question.
- Exports do not help much. A transcript is the whole conversation, not the four decisions inside it that actually matter later.
How it works
One context, two connectors
Contexter is a remote MCP server. ChatGPT and Claude connect to it the way they connect to any other tool, and both reach the same records.
- Connect both assistants once. Each gets its own authorisation; you can revoke either without touching the other. How to connect →
- Save the result where you made it. In ChatGPT:
Save this into a context called “Website redesign” in Contexter. The record lands in the context, not in the chat you will lose. - Ask the other assistant about the same context. In Claude:
What is in my “Website redesign” context?— it reads the record ChatGPT wrote, and can add its own next to it.
The Telegram bot and the web workspace open the same context too, so a phone with no connector set up is still a way in.

What travels, and what does not
- Travels: what you deliberately saved — results, notes, plans, files, and messages you sent to the bot.
- Does not travel: raw chat history. Contexter never reads your ChatGPT or Claude conversations, and nothing from them is saved automatically.

Questions about this pair
Can ChatGPT and Claude read the same context?
Yes. Contexter is a remote MCP server, and both assistants connect to it as a client. They reach the same records — there is no copy per assistant, and no export step between them.
Does my ChatGPT chat history move to Claude?
No, and it is not meant to. What travels is what you deliberately saved into a context: results, notes, files, decisions. Raw chat history stays where it was, and neither assistant reads the other's conversations.
Do I need both subscriptions for this to work?
You need whichever assistants you want to connect, on a plan that allows connectors or custom MCP servers. Contexter itself asks for no API key and is in early access, open to everyone.
What if I switch to a third assistant later?
The context does not belong to any of them. Any MCP-capable client can connect to it, and the Telegram bot and the web workspace reach the same records without a connector at all.
